Sky Projects Barge board replacement Project
A barge board is the L shaped cover over the roof tiles that waterproofs and protects a building from wind and rain.
Wexford Park has a total of 250m of barge boards, originally made from asbestos.
Over time the fasteners rust, and the roof battens rot, and the barge board can blow off in high winds, which has happened twice in the last few months.
The trustees have sourced 3 quotes for replacement of the asbestos barge boards with PVC, as well as the old battens, to which the barge boards are attached.
At the same time the gutters will be cleaned and the joints resealed.
This is essential maintenance, fortunately there are funds available to carry out this project.
The contractor chosen for this project is Andries Mhlangu, who has a good reputation.
The total cost, including the gutter maintenance will be R54,000.
The work will start in Oct, and all residents will be kept informed. The duration will be approximately 1 week, weather permitting.
